Craft Displayed on Craft Line - Lara SmithOnce your little ones start making crafts at home or at school, there will be a continuous flow of lovingly-made creations they will want to show off. Having an area or two dedicated to displaying these items is a great way to reduce clutter, decorate a space, and show them how proud you are of their efforts. With some simple craft display projects like craft lines and open-back art display frames, you can organize your space and decorate while encouraging your child's blossoming creativity.
Things you will need for making craft lines: RibbonDouble-sided velcroFoam stickers (optional)Plastic clothespinsScissorsPencilSteps for Making Craft Lines (Pictures 1 &2) Decide whether you want your craft line vertical, horizontal, and how long you want it.With your chosen ribbon, cut it to the desired length of the line. With a pencil, mark on the wall where you want your line to start and finish.Stick one side of your double-sided velcro onto the pencil marks of where your line will start and end. Make sure your line is straight.Stick the other ends of your double-sided velcro to the inside ends of your cut ribbon.Press the ribbon onto the velcro already mounted on the wall.If you like, you can use foam stickers to stick onto each end of the line for added decoration. If you would like different lines for different children, use foam letter stickers to put their initial on the ends of the line. With your plastic clothespins, hang your child's crafts, or better yet, have them do it themselves - they will love it!These craft lines are great for displaying crafts while decorating a space. They look wonderful in a playroom and when covered in seasonal crafts, they help in creating a festive decor.
Things you will need for making Open-Back Art Display Frames Open-back frames (frames without any glass or backing)CaulkingPainting tapeBubble levellerDouble-sided velcroWall paint and paint brush (optional)Steps for Making Open-Back Art Display Frames (Pictures 3 & 4) Once you have your frames - flea markets are a cheap source for these - decide where you would like them on the wall. For playrooms/kids' rooms, it's a safer choice to have them permanently mounted on the walls, which is where the caulking compound comes in.Using a leveller and a pencil, trace a line on the wall of where the bottom of the frame will sit. If you are doing more than one in a row, do the same to mark where the sides facing each other will be so they are equally spaced apart.Apply caulking compound to the backs of the frames either by sqeezing it from a tube or using a caulking gun. Press the frames onto the walls in line with your pencil tracings of where you want them. With your painting tape, tape each side of the frame to the wall for extra hold while they are drying. Leave tape on for 24 hours to be sure they are firmly adhered to the wall.Attach a piece or two of double-sided velcro to the middle of the wall area within the frames. Attach the other side of the velcro to the craft and press into the frame. An optional additional step can be done to accentuate the craft display frames: prior to mounting the frames, you can paint the squares within the frames a different color from the rest of the wall. You can leave the velcro in the squares attached to the wall and switch out your crafts to suit the season: Christmas, Valentine's Day, Easter, Halloween, etc.
Enjoy using these simple craft display ideas to decorate and display your child's creations. Craft lines and art-display frames allow for quick and easy craft rotation to suit the changing seasons and interests of your child.
